OCR: KEYPAD KEY CONTACTS CONTACT PAD Beneath the keypad is a circuit board with contacts for each key. Pressing a key closes a pair of contacts, telling the processing unit to store the binary code for that key in the calculator's memory. The processing unit then sends the code to the display, where segments of the liquid crystal display darken to show the number.
